Voice K Magazine is a magazine whose contents are entirely written by children on subject matter for children readers. Little journalists attended events; interviewed business owners, managers, volunteers, and all sorts of people; and did research.
My first duties as an editorial assistant to the editor-in-chief was to proofread the first issue before it was sent to the printers. Throughout my two-month stay at Voice K, I copy-edited little journalists’ articles; suggested changes to prose to strengthen each piece; researched and organized press visits by the little journalists to events and businesses; and even escorted them at one point.
Working with children who, at ages 6-15, showed so much responsibility and hard work was inspiring. Even more, I applied skills I learned in school and got to see its physical manifestation.
